FAQs

isinwheel Electric Bikes

Electric Bikes in Modern Life

Electric bikes have become an indispensable means of transportation and leisure in modern cities.

By combining battery power with pedal power, riders can travel farther and more easily.

At Isinwheel, we offer electric bikes, perfect for commuting, city riding, or weekend adventures.

Electric Pedal-Assist System

There are two main types of e-bikes:

1️⃣ Throttle-powered — moves without pedalling.

2️⃣ Pedal-assist (Pedelec) — motor assists only when you pedal.

All isinwheel models use pedal-assist systems, keeping the natural riding experience while reducing fatigue.

Australia E-bike Regulations

What are the federal regulations for e-bikes in Australia?

In Australia, e-bikes are classified as Power-Assisted Pedal Cycles (PABs) under the Australian Design Rules (ADR) and state transport authorities.

There are two main categories of legal e-bikes:

  1. Pedal-Assist (Pedelec – EN15194 compliant)
    Maximum continuous motor power: 250W
Motor assistance cuts off at 25 km/h
Must require pedalling to activate the motor
    No throttle operation allowed

  2. Throttle-Controlled E-bike
    Maximum continuous motor power: 200W
    Maximum assisted speed: 25 km/h

E-bikes that exceed these limits (e.g. 500W or 32km/h) are considered motorcycles or mopeds and require registration, insurance, and a valid rider’s license.

Are isinwheel e-bikes compliant with Australian standards?

Yes.

All isinwheel e-bikes are designed to meet or exceed Australian safety and performance standards, including:

  • EN 15194:2017 (Electric Pedal Assist Standard)
  • CE / EMC / RoHS / ISO 9001 certifications
  • Built-in compliance label and frame serial number

For models with 500W motors or speeds above 25 km/h, we provide a dual-mode system:

  • Street Mode (250W, 25 km/h limit) for public road use
  • Off-Road Mode (up to 500W, 32 km/h) for private property or trail use
Do isinwheel e-bikes have throttles? Are they legal?

Some isinwheel e-bikes include a removable throttle.

In most Australian states, throttles are legal only up to 6 km/h to assist with starting.

Our throttles can be easily disabled or limited via the control panel to meet local laws.

Do I need to register or insure my e-bike?

For compliant e-bikes (≤250W pedal-assist or ≤200W throttle):

  • 🚫 No registration required
  • 🚫 No driver’s license required
  • 🚫 No compulsory insurance

However, you may choose to purchase optional e-bike insurance for theft or damage.

All isinwheel bikes have a unique frame number for insurance and police reporting.

What documents come with isinwheel bikes?

Each isinwheel e-bike includes full compliance and safety documentation:

  • EN 15194 Certification
  • CE / EMC / RoHS / ISO 9001 Certificates
  • User Manual and Safety Guidelines
  • Optional Digital Compliance Copy (upon request)
What affects battery range?

Actual range depends on various factors, including:

  • Rider weight and riding style
  • Terrain and slope
  • Temperature and wind resistance
  • Battery age and tire pressure
  • Riding mode (Eco / Normal / Sport)

If your range differs significantly from expected results, contact our support team for diagnostics.

Can I modify my e-bike?

We strongly discourage modifying motor settings or controllers.

Once your e-bike exceeds 250W or 25 km/h, it no longer qualifies as a legal PAB and may be treated as a motor vehicle — requiring:

  • Registration
  • Rider license
  • Insurance coverage

isinwheel is not responsible for damages or penalties caused by unauthorized modification.

Where can I ride my e-bike in Australia?

On roads & bike paths: Only if compliant (≤250W pedal-assist / ≤200W throttle)
On private property or trails: Higher-power “off-road” mode allowed

Always wear a helmet and follow local traffic and safety regulations.

Are isinwheel bikes waterproof? Can I ride in the rain?

All isinwheel e-bikes are IPX4 rated, meaning they are splash-resistant and safe to ride in light rain.

However, avoid riding in heavy rain or submerging the battery in water.

Can I charge the battery with a normal household outlet?

✅ Yes! All bikes come with an AU-standard charger compatible with standard 240V outlets.
